A VINTAGE CHRISTMAS SHEET MUSIC CRAFT YOU’LL LOVE!

It’s the most wonderful time of year! And these are one of my favorite holiday decorations that I pull out of the storage bins each and every year.
They’re not fancy. They weren’t expensive. And they wouldn’t be as valuable to anyone else on the planet.
But to me they are a true treasure because of the memories they hold. I simply love these framed vintage music sheets.
Let me explain why …
My mom was a really good pianist. And while I took lessons as a kid, I never really rose to her level, for a whole mess of reasons. Mainly, I hated to practice. Slight issue there. LOL.
But I loved hearing her “tickle the ivories,” especially during the holiday season. Every year she’d pull out her vintage sheet music with all of the holiday classics.
Silent Night Holy Night, Silver Bells, Frosty the Snowman and, of course, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer … just to name a few. The sheets were a bit tattered since she’d had them since she was a kid.

But even as a youngster myself, I marveled at the slick paper on which they were printed. I loved the illustrations on the front. And I looked forward to hearing her play them each year.
And yes, there was a bit of singing along on my part.
So when we were cleaning out my parents house a few years ago, I stumbled upon the box in which she kept these holiday treasures, as well as a LOT of other sheet music. Truth be told, it had been a few years since she had played the piano.
The box was dusty and the sheet music had aged even more. It held a bit of a musty smell. And there were FAR too many pieces for me to even begin to keep, especially since I don’t even own a piano.
But when I began going through the box, I was again drawn to the charm of the vintage Christmas sheet music. Even through adult eyes, the paper, the graphics, the colors … were just SO cool!
So I compromised with myself and kept a few of my favorites that were in the best condition.
I had no idea what I was going to do with them. Then last year, I came up with a great idea! And I can’t wait to share it with you!

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS SHEET MUSIC CRAFT: STEP ONE
So the first step is to find the holiday sheet music you want to use. This was easy for me, since I had kept several pieces.
If scouring your home or your parents’ house isn’t turning up anything, you can often find vintage Christmas sheet music at thrift stores. You could also pull pages of your favorite Christmas carols from old hymnals or music books.
But I prefer the authentic sheet music for a couple of reasons. First, it is a bit larger size so it makes a really great statement. Second, the illustrations and graphics on these pieces is what makes them such a lost art … that truly IS art!
I mean, look at the detail on this Frosty sheet music!

The next step is to find the right frame for your pieces. I picked up these great white frames, which were the perfect size for the project. Here are some frames that would be great for this project:
These white, 12″ x 16″ frames would be perfect for this project
A gold frame could be an elegant touch for this Christmas craft and these are a great value
For a minimalist look, check out these black frames

Unwrap the frames and take the back off.

My frames had a plastic film on the front, which needed to be removed.

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS SHEET MUSIC CRAFT: STEP THREE
You are now ready to attached the sheet music to a piece of white cardstock. I actually used the yardstick that came with the frame. It was the perfect size and already precut. I only needed to measure to ensure the sheet music was evenly centered.

PRO TIP: The easiest way is to use a glue stick to place them on white card stock. You do not want to use a hot glue gun. It will potentially damage the layers of paper of the sheet music. Since it’s old, it’s a little bit fragile. Glue dots could also be a good choice.

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS SHEET MUSIC CRAFT: STEP FOUR
It’s now time to reassemble everything within the frame. And repeat the process for each piece of sheet music you want to frame. It’s that simple, but looks that great!

These would also make wonderful gifts for a music teacher or a loved one … pick out one of their favorite carols that has a special meaning!

I placed the finished pieces on top of the bookshelves in our study! I just love the way they look!

They could also look great hung on a wall. They are JUST classic!!!
