One of my favorite themes for special events for spring entertaining is a citrus theme. Why? A citrus color palette, with its bright yellows, happy oranges, and deep lime green tones, just makes me happy.

It’s bright, it’s cheery and It evokes everything that makes the warmer weather special. You can’t help but think of warm sunshine, the undeniable scent of crisp spring air, and the joy of plants in bloom, when you are surrounded by citrus decor.

A citrus theme is perfect if you are hosting outdoor parties or a Mother’s Day Brunch. I’ve also noticed a lot of buzz around citrus theme bridal showers on Pinterest. It’s just a great way to embrace the season.

A citrus themed party is also easy to pull together. I’ve covered some of my favorite how-tos previously. But one of my favorite elements of the decor is always the fresh flowers. And one of the prettiest elements you can add to the event is a citrus floral arrangement. It is an easy way to bring the theme to life.

In addition, citrus flower arrangements not only look great, they are easy to pull together … if you know how! Of course, you can turn to the professional staff of floral designers to pull together your fresh flower arrangements. But, a DIY citrus arrangement is simple project. It is easy to pull together a gorgeous arrangement in just a few minutes.

Step-by-step, I’ll show you how to create your own citrus floral arrangement that is reminiscent of the custom designs that can cost hundreds of dollars. You’ll be amazed!

HOW TO MAKE A CITRUS FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

First, you’ll want to determine if you are using a smaller vase or a larger vase, and how many arrangements you are making. The amount of materials you need depends on the size of your vase.

Obviously, if you are using a small vase, you will not need as many fresh cut flowers or lemons for your special design. For a citrus floral arrangement, I recommend using a square vase. It allows you to really showcase the lemon slices in your final design.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Lemon slices (or other citrus)
Square glass vase
Fresh flowers (I used yellow roses)
Small plastic cups

First, cut the lemons into slices.

Next place a small plastic cup in the center of the vase. You want to choose a cup that is proportionate to the vase you are using. The purpose of the cup is two-fold. First, it’s to hold the lemon slices in place. Without the cup, the lemon slices won’t stay where you want them to be. They’ll slide all around.

The second reason is to hold the stems of the fresh flowers you are using in your arrangement. Your flowers will last longer if the are separated from the acidity of the lemons.

After the lemons are arranged around all sides of the vase, it’s time to add the flowers. You’ll want to cut your flowers to the desired length prior to placing them in the plastic cup.

Finally, fill the plastic cup with water, as well as the sides of the vase.

Adding citrus slices to any vase is a simple way to add visual interest and create a gorgeous arrangement.

If you don’t want to use lemon slices, you can use other citrus slices such as grapefruit slices, lime slices or orange slices.

I love the option of creating a citrus flower arrangement using a color scheme of brilliant oranges. How incredible would a citrus arrangement look with orange tulips, orange gerberas, orange roses or orange lilies?

Of course, you want to look at the availability of seasonal flowers when you are determining what type of flower to use for your particular special occasion. You may even want to use your own garden flowers.

In all honesty, there are a variety of flowers that you can find at your local grocery store to create a fantastic citrus floral arrangement.
