Fashion always leads, right? And gold has certainly been enjoying a moment for the past several few years. So it’s only natural the use gold within a tablescape is also rising tremendously as well.

But sometimes it can be hard to find a great, versatile gold vase for your centerpieces, without spending a fortune. Until now. I’ve got a simple and elegant idea for an easy gold centerpiece you are going to love. And, I’ll show you how to pull it together, step by step.

Honestly, I adore the gold trend. Gold adds a touch of sophistication and a touch of elegance to any tablescape it adorns. I’ve written numerous times how I love adding this gold flatware to my table settings, these gold chargers and even elegant gold napkins. I’ve also embraced these stemless wine glasses accented in gold.

Why?

Because they are the perfect size and shape to double as water glasses. So as I was pulling together this elegant tablescape, I decided the perfect addition would be an easy gold centerpiece.

CREATE AN EASY GOLD CENTERPIECE, STEP BY STEP …

Making floral arrangements and DIY centerpieces is one of my favorite activities. I think it reminds me of my college job at the local campus florist. It was a great part-time gig and I learned many flower arranging skills that I still use to this day. Plus … I was always the first to know who was getting flowers from their boyfriend. LOL.

So crafting this easy gold centerpiece truly put a smile on my face. And honestly, it turns out these gold vases are one of my favorite, easy DIY centerpiece ideas that I’ve ever created. You’re going to love them too.

Sometimes a simple centerpiece is the best way to create elegant tablescapes. And these easy gold centerpieces fit that role. They look great on an event table with other gold decorations and accents.

Almost always, I prefer simple centerpieces for a variety of reasons. First, they don’t take up a ton of room on the table settings. Second, they are a perfect choice to allow guests who are sitting across the table from each other to talk. Tall vases can create an obstruction and limit conversation.

STEP ONE: FIND THE PERFECT CLEAR GLASS VASES THAT SUIT YOUR NEEDS

A simple clear glass vase was the ideal choice for this project. I purchased this simple glass vase on Amazon. You could also likely find a great glass vase selection at thrift stores.

Square glass vases are also ideal for this project. I love square shapes because they create a great, modern look.

Finally, if you are looking to create several elegant wedding centerpieces, you’ll want to explore doing a bulk purchase, so all of the glass vases match. This buying option is also available through Amazon.

And since I had the spray paint out, I decided to also paint some matching votives.

STEP TWO: CHOOSE THE RIGHT SPRAY PAINT AND TOOLS FOR THE BEST OUTCOME!

I have a love/hate relationship with spray paint. But, I’ve learned a few tips along the way that typically make the job a lot easier. The first is to always use a quality spray paint. And while it’s a bit more expensive, Rust-oleum is my go-to choice. Especially when you want a high-gloss metallic gold finish.

Second, you’ll want to affix a spray gun nozzle onto your can of spray paint. It is a game changer. I’ll explain …

STEP THREE: EVENLY SPRAY PAINT THE GLASS VASES TO MAKE AN EASY GOLD CENTERPIECE

The key to this project is to evenly apply the gold spray paint to the outside of the glass vases. You do not want any brush lines or drips. A smooth gold finish is what really makes these vases so elegant. So it’s critically important the paint is evenly distributed.

The most foolproof way to do this is to use a gun to apply the paint. So you definitely want to buck up and purchase this spray-paint can gun. Trust me, you’ll find yourself using it for so many projects around your house in the future … it’s well worth the investment.

PLUS … it eliminates my biggest pet peeve of spray painting, the mess that gets all over your hands and ruins your manicure. You know exactly what I’m talking about here. And with this gun, that situation is extinct!

You also don’t want to spray paint in the open air. If you have a garage, that is the perfect area in which to spray the vases, since you won’t be affected by the breeze or the elements. Simply place a tarp on the garage floor. We also placed some pieces of cardboard on top of the tarp.

If you’d like, you could also spray paint mason jars, and fill them with lush greenery as well as baby’s breath, for more of a rustic touch. But I prefer a more modern style.

STEP FOUR: ADD ELEGANT FLORALS TO CREATE A STUNNING GOLD CENTERPIECE

You can place the flowers directly into the vase, or use floral foam. I simply trimmed the stems and placed them inside the vase. I’ve used a variety of florals that I’ve found at my local flower marts. Other great places to get them include Trader Joe’s, corner markets, or even your own backyard. That’s where I clipped the hydrangeas in the vase above.

And since the painted surface is on the outside of the vase, you don’t have to worry about the water in the vase damaging it. Look at how GREAT this easy gold centerpiece looks next to these elegant gold candlesticks! SWOON!

A picnic tablescape with a wooden pallet, gold chargers, gold napkins, gold utensils, white taper candles, gold candleholders, velvet pillows as cushions and gold rimmed wine glasses.

I love how the pink roses and dark pink mums add a pop of color to the centerpiece design and the dramatic effect they bring. White flowers would also be a perfect match and look great against the gold.
