“Summer is officially here!” Every year when July 4 rolls around, that’s the thought that goes through my head.

And, yes, I know the season technically began on June 21, with the summer solstice. So, upon reflection, let me adjust my proclamation to “summer entertaining is officially here!”

YAY! That’s really what I’m more excited about.

Why the clarification? Well … the summer produce is finally starting to really show itself on the supermarket shelves and at the Farmer’s markets. Bring on those homegrown berries, tomatoes and herbs. They make cooking fun … even for me!

And the evenings are the perfect time to gather friends outdoors, after the heat of the day, to enjoy the long sunsets and all the fruits of your gardening labor over the past few month.

I see the July Fourth holiday as the start of these evenings.

One of the other things I love is to pull together is a great tablescape for these gatherings. But I’m amazed when I talk to friends how they sometimes see this as a burden.

What?

It’s my secret super power.

So, I’m sharing a few of my easy tips and tricks, as well as a few items I love that I’ve curated to help you enjoy summer entertaining as much as I do.

Here are four design palettes to help you build a gorgeous and festive table for the July Fourth holiday, as well as the rest of the summer!

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY DECOR: CASUAL SUMMER DINNER PARTY

Where do I begin? There are so many cute items here.

Well, let’s start at the foundation of any good tablescape, the tablecloth. This red, white and blue cloth is both modern and whimsical. You can’t go wrong with your table setting when this is its start. And I love these wider check napkins!

I also love to layer linens. A burlap runner is a great way to add some texture to any summer table.

See the paper fireworks in red, white and blue? Simply write each guests’ name on them and place them on top of their plate. A super cute and easy way to have custom place cards!

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY DECOR: TRIED AND TRUE TRICKS

One of my biggest table tricks is to find pieces that can transition from season to season. None of us have as much storage as we need. So choosing pieces that can work for multiple seasons is a must! These striped and polka dot plates fit that bill. They are great for summer entertaining, but will also easily transition to an adorable holiday setting. And they are giving total Kate Spade vibes! I love them!

I also love to simply add colored glassware to a table. It’s an easy way to give it a festive touch. These red and blue glasses are ideal for that purpose. And you’ll use them throughout the year.

A GREAT CENTERPIECE IDEA …

Finally, if you want a fantastic centerpiece but don’t feel like you’re great at flower arranging, don’t sweat it. Make your vase/container do the work for you. That’s the exact reason I love a good porcelain, white pitcher. It’s a foolproof way to create a swoon-worthy floral arrangement, with just a few hydrangea blooms or sunflowers. Trust me. You will pull out this pitcher season after season.

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY DECOR: A SOPHISTICATED OUTDOOR PARTY

I love using glassware and china for my parties, since they are reusable and better for the environment. However, sometimes in outdoor summer party settings, it’s just not practical. This could be for a variety of reasons, such as your party’s on a pool deck or you’re hosting a large number of people.

Whatever the reason, there is good news.

You can still pull together a stylish and sophisticated table setting. And that’s what this sophisticated outdoor party setting is all about.

HOW TO ELEVATE YOUR OUTDOOR TABLESCAPE

I love these faceted stemless wine glasses that are perfect for wine, cocktails or soft drinks. Their angular design makes them elegant, yet practical.

And don’t even think about using that plastic cutlery and awful paper plates of yesteryear that was bought at the grocery store. I love this elegant gold cutlery that goes great with these navy rimmed plates. Again, Kate Spade vibes on a budget.

These stemless champagne flutes are also an elegant touch.

Finally, a good balloon arch is a great way to greet your guests. While it looks complicated, this balloon arch is actually easy to assemble. Get ready for lots of instagram moments, #besthostessever!

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY DECOR: A PULLED-TOGETHER PICNIC

Okay, Fourth of July is all about Americana. And there is no better setting for this look than an outdoor picnic. Let’s unpack ALL of the cuteness in this table design:

This vintage white truck planter is a piece I turn to from season to season. You’ll love it on your Fourth of July tablescape, as much as you’re going to love it this fall and throughout the holiday season. Yup. It’s a keeper.

You can’t have a Fourth of July party without bunting! You’ll use this bunting from year to year for an easy, festive touch! And everyone should have a good set of remote control candle pillars to add to outdoor celebrations throughout the year.

Use this quintessential tablecloth for your picnic buffet. Grab a pair of these wooden firework accents to dress up your food display. And I love how I found these star paper napkins that match the shortest firework. It ties it all together, without being too matchy match.

Finally, make a picnic easy for your guests. Instead of paper plates, these food boats are an ideal choice. They are easier to eat from and look adorable when you add the cute blue and white papers!

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY DECOR: FESTIVE AND FUN FAMILY AFFAIR

Maybe you aren’t throwing a big soiree this weekend. Maybe you’re just hanging with your family and keeping it casual. That’s awesome. But you can still add a bit of fun into the mix with these easy pieces that will make the day a bit special.

These cupcake toppers are adorable and a great special touch that makes ordinary cupcakes just a bit Fourth of July festive.

I also love these paper plates. How cute are the popsicles and the birthday cake? You can also grab matching napkins to make your family celebration just a bit more special.

A cute balloon bouquet can also be a great, simple addition to your kitchen island throughout the weekend to greet you and make your family smile. If you want to take the decorating further, these cherry red party fans will look great hanging from your mantle. Plus you can fold them and use them again next year!
