A BIT OF BACKGROUND ON THE AFTERNOON TEA PARTY …
You may be asking, what are the origins of a tea party?
According to Historic UK, during the 1880’s upper-class and society women would change into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea which was usually served in the drawing room between four and five o’clock.
Since we don’t have a drawing room (and likely you don’t either), simply find a quiet spot within your home where you can relax for an hour or so …
And the long gown, gloves and hat are completely optional. But i do admit, it’s a fun idea, especially if you do wind up inviting friends. Think of the photos you’ll take and memories you’ll make!
With that info in mind, here are some great Bridgerton Tea Party ideas …

FIRST SET THE SCENE FOR YOUR BRIDGERTON TEA PARTY WITH SOME CUTE BRITISH DECOR
By its very nature, an afternoon tea party table setting should be absolutely adorable.
From the bejeweled crown to the gold scepter, and the charming English phone booth boxes, you are going to love every one of the details of this tablescape, which is perfect for an afternoon tea party.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE TABLE SETTING’S HIGHLIGHTS:
I love the tablecloth, which plays off of the colors and pattern of the Union Jack. It reminds me of a quilt my grandmother handmade and brings a coziness that is perfect for afternoon tea. The polka dots add a touch of whimsy and fun! Tea parties don’t have to be stuffy.
One of my absolute favorite part of this tablescape are these adorable British tea tins. I was so excited when I found them. They are perfect party favors for an afternoon tea party.
Finally, a vintage ivory and gold tea pot that belonged to my mother, as well as the gold creamer and sugar that completed the set, were absolutely the perfect addition.
I’m sure you have an heirloom teapot hiding somewhere around your house. Dig it out. It will bring you so much joy to use it for your Bridgerton tea party. As you sip, you’ll feel the warmth of not only the tea, but the memories the tea set evokes!
I had so much fun pulling all of this British décor together. You can find all of the details of how I pulled this decor together here.
CONSIDER USING A TEA POT AS A VASE!
What’s the perfect centerpiece for an afternoon tea party? Why a tea pot of course!
I pulled together some great tea pot centerpieces for a luncheon at our country club a few years ago.
Since I didn’t have a bunch of extra tea pots laying around my house (and likely you don’t either), I had to use a little ingenuity to gather them.
Come to find out, they are readily available at many thrift and vintage stores. I was able to find several adorable tea pots and tea cups within a single afternoon.
There were some very beautiful pieces available at very reasonable prices. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable they were. I paid no more than $10 a pot!
I love the different patterns and styles and think the variety made the tables more interesting. So don’t worry if your tea pots and tea cups don’t match. In fact, embrace it!
And since tea pots are vessels meant to hold tea, they make perfect floral vases.
To give them bit of height, I placed each tea pot on a round acrylic pedestal. In addition, I put these LED, battery-operated accent lights under each arrangement.

Is there anything better than a warm cup of tea in the afternoon? Well … come to find out there actually is.

They are the perfect addition to your Bridgerton tea party!
Seriously, you won’t believe how easy it is to make these gorgeous tea bombs in just a few simple steps. I’ll show you how in this blog post!
A BRIDGERTON TEA PARTY NEEDS CAKE AND HERE ARE SOME GREAT RECIPES …
A QUEEN VICTORIA CAKE IS A CLASSIC CHOICE …
Queen Victoria cakes are synonymous with celebrations in the U.K., as well as being a favorite at royal garden parties.
The cake was named for Queen Victoria who apparently ate a slice of the sponge cake with her tea every afternoon.
And I’ve got the best Queen Victoria cake recipe for you! In fact, it was share by a Buckingham Palace pastry chef.
It’s a simple recipe, with one caveat. The royal chef’s recipe is a little difficult to understand for Americans who are not fans of The Great British Bake Off.
That would be me.
So, I’ve got a translated version for you.
It demystifies “caster sugar,” “sieved self-raising flour,” and “vanilla pods,” as well as converting all of the grams to cups.
In spite of those hurdles, it was really fun to make, turned out beautifully and tasted even better.
Keep calm and bake on my friends! This cake is a great addition to your Bridgerton tea party! Here’s the recipe.
A LEMON CHIFFON CAKE IS ALSO A PERFECT BRIDGERTON TEA PARTY IDEA
Another great cake option for your afternoon tea is a Lemon Chiffon Cake.
This delicacy is a perfect spring cake and a wonderful treat that will dress up any hostess’ table. Here is the easy, made-from scratch recipe I used.
