KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY DECORATIONS YOUR GUESTS WILL LOVE AT RACE TIME AND BEYOND
I’ve got the best Kentucky Derby party decorations to share with you!
These Kentucky Derby party decorations are next level.
The annual horse race, which is held on the first Saturday of May each year (this year’s date is May 4th) at Churchill Downs is a not to be missed event! But in case you can’t make it to Louisville and stay at the famous Brown Hotel, we’ve got a great collection of high quality horse racing party supplies that your party guests will love.
I absolutely love decorating for a Kentucky Derby party! Why? The Kentucky Derby is a great party theme because there are so many elements from which to choose. It has all the glitz and glamour of a fantastic soiree. The Kentucky Derby hats, gorgeous red roses, the iconic mint julep cups, and, of course, you can’t leave out the mint juleps themselves with their fresh mint.
A horse racing theme is also great for a birthday party, because it is just a classic style. And pulling together these decor items in advance of the party is so easy. Because this is one party that is on a very specific timeframe. So you need to be prepared and ready when they announce, “riders up!”
Whatever the final results of the race, your party is sure to be winner with these Kentucky Derby decorations. This tablescape rocks!

THESE MINT JULEP CUPS ARE ESSENTIAL KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY DECORATIONS
The unique trophy cup shape of the mint julep glass is almost as iconic as its silver-plated finish.
So you’ll want to stock up on these mint julep cups. You’ll also want to explore this Mint Julep recipe, which is said to be the “official” recipe of Churchill Downs.
In addition to julep glasses, how incredibly cute is that horseshoe swizzle stick? It’s just a simple touch that truly completes the celebration. I am all about the little details that make a big difference.
I also love these napkins! They feature a variety of colorful jockey silks. In fact, they inspired the rest of the table!
GREAT KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY DECORATIONS START WITH THIS TABLE RUNNER
It’s no secret, I love to use table runners within the fun tablescapes I create. They provide a great foundation on which to place decor items or party favors.
And this is exactly what I did with my Kentucky Derby tablescape.
This grass table runner is a must-have Kentucky Derby party decoration!
And what diid I place on top of the table runner? Well, that’s where the inspiration from the napkins comes into play.
THE BEST KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY DECORATIONS ARE DEFINITELY THESE HORSE RACING CENTERPIECES!
I created my own little colorful race track, inspired by the colors in the napkins, with just a few simple supplies:
Glass cylinder vases
Black cardstock
Cricut Maker
Glue dots
LED Disc Lights
To create the horses, I used my Cricut Maker to cut out horse silhouettes from black cardstock and attached them to these round cylindrical glass vases using glue dots. I used varying heights of vases to create interest on the table.
Next, I placed an LED disc light in each vase. They come with a handy remote control that lets you change the color of the lights from about 16 different choices. So fun!
This Kentucky Derby party decoration is one of my favorites.
RED ROSES ARE ANOTHER ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY DECORATIONS
One of my other favorite elements of the tablescape are the red roses! You can’t have Kentucky Derby party decorations without red roses. To keep it simple (an easy), I cut the roses and place them in these black, square vases. I like how the black of the vases matches the black horses (and the black background of the napkins). It balances the table really nicely!
Each place setting also has a bold colored napkin, which could correspond to one of the horses in the race. It’s a great way for your guests to be a part of the action. Each can choose their own individual horse and, of course, one lucky guests will be the winning horse.
Another element I love are the horseshoes. Again, I used my Cricut maker to craft them out of gold foil sheets. I placed one on top of each napkin, which were gently folded on each of the dinner plates. They could also serve as place cards. I prefer to use ceramic plates over paper plates when pulling together a table. These basic white ceramic plates are so versatile! And I love matching the horseshoes with this beautiful gold flatware.
These official Kentucky Derby glasses are the final touch to the perfect Kentucky Derby party decorations. They could also make the perfect gift for your favorite horse-racing fan. You can even collect them from year to year to create a set from all of the annual Kentucky Derby events.
