TOAST NATIONAL VODKA DAY ON OCTOBER 4 WITH GREAT COCKTAILS!
On National Vodka Day October 4th, let’s celebrate the occasion with these great vodka cocktails.
Cheers to National Vodka Day October 4th!
National Vodka Day is October 4th! In celebration of National Vodka Day, I’m sharing a few of my favorite vodka cocktails which I know you’ll love. But to kick off the festivities, let’s first discover a little bit more about vodka, which is one of the world’s most versatile spirits.
WHAT IS VODKA?
Vodka is a clear, neutral flavor, distilled spirit without smell or taste. It is most commonly produced from grain or potatoes. But vodka can be made from anything containing starch or sugar, including sugar beet molasses. Vodka is one of the world’s most versatile spirits.
WHAT KIND OF ALCOHOL IS VODKA?
Vodka is a distilled ethyl alcohol. Most vodka is 40 percent alcohol (or 80 proof).
WHAT ARE THE MAIN INGREDIENTS IN VODKA?
Bottled vodka is 40 percent ethanol and 60 percent water, with only negligible congeners.
IS VODKA STILL MADE FROM POTATOES?
Most traditional vodkas from the United Kingdom and Europe use grains such as winter wheat, rye or potatoes. Many modern, new-world vodkas use corn.
HOW LONG DOES VODKA LAST?
Experts recommend using unopened bottles of vodka within 30 to 50 years of production. For whatever reason, this makes me chuckle because 30 to 50 years is a really long time. Take that, wine!
WHO ARE THE BIGGEST VODKA DRINKERS?
Vodka was originally distilled in Russia, so it should come as no surprise that Russia consumes more vodka than any other country. However, vodka is the top-selling spirit in the United States, with more than 80 million cases sold annually.
HOW TO CELEBRATE VODKA DAY?
National Vodka Day is October 4th. And what better way to celebrate than with a handcrafted, vodka cocktail. Here are four of my favorite vodka cocktail recipes!
CELEBRATE NATIONAL VODKA DAY WITH THE DIRTY SHIRLEY
Remember the “kiddie” cocktail? LOL. I most certainly do. In retrospect, I’m not sure that was the most appropriately named drink to serve a six year old …
But alas, I also rode backwards in my aunt’s station wagon with my cousins in between downing kiddie cocktails. We all survived.
The kiddie cocktail (or Shirley Temple as it is also called) was a staple of my Friday nights during the late seventies. While my parents unwound before ordering dinner at a nice restaurant, they also enjoyed a Manhattan or a Rob Roy, and I sipped on my Shirley Temple.
It was colorful, pretty, a little tart, and always garnished with a maraschino cherry. So when I got wind of the Dirty Shirley craze, I simply had to jump on board. It almost felt like a call of duty.
As a nod to my Friday nights of yesteryear and in keeping with my fondness for a good “adult” cocktail to end the week, I summoned Matt to concoct the best Dirty Shirley recipe. And I think he did an excellent job. Follow this link to find out how you can make this delightful drink!
CELEBRATE NATIONAL VODKA DAY ON OCTOBER 4TH WITH THE HARVEY WALLBANGER
This is always a favorite cocktail and a fun way to celebrate National Vodka Day, especially if you want to start early. Why?
Because the Harvey Wallbanger is simply the best cocktail for brunch. Move over cheap-champagne mimosas and Bloody Marys with ridiculous, over-the-top garnishes.
The Harvey Wallbanger is a libation truly deserving a seat at your brunch table. So let’s explore this vodka beverage with an admittedly funny name. Follow this link to find out more!
CELEBRATE NATIONAL VODKA DAY WITH THE VESPAR MARTINI
It’s the simplest of drinks, yet can be the most complex. It can be shaken. It can be stirred. And it can be shaken, not stirred.
Called “the elixir of quietude,” it’s a perennial choice for some of the most sophisticated and discerning palates across the globe, the likes of whom include James Bond. And why not? It’s dry, it’s dirty, it’s perfect … it’s the Martini.
So on National Vodka Day, let’s all gently raise our iconic triangular shaped glasses, knowingly nod, and celebrate everything that is the Vespar Martini. Sometimes the best drink recipes are the most simple. This martini is no exception. It’s the perfect way to end the week in true Bond style. Follow this link for the recipe. Cheers!

CELEBRATE NATIONAL VODKA DAY WITH THE HONEY DEUCE
The Kentucky Derby has the Mint Julep. Wimbledon features the Pimm’s cup and the U.S. Open delights its guests with the Honey Deuce. This vodka and Chambord-filled cocktail is the signature beverage of the tennis tournament and is almost as popular as the tennis match itself. It has been extremely popular with our readers? Have you tried it yet? You should.
Named in honor of the 40-40 tie score and the drink’s perfect melon tennis balls, the original recipe for the signature Honey Deuce cocktail was created by legendary Grey Goose essences mixologist, Nick Mautone, in 2006. The tasty combination of the renowned vodka brand with the raspberry lemon juice flavor of the drink make it perfect for any celebration of National Vodka Day. Here is the perfect honey deuce recipe!
